JooYoun Paek is an artist and interaction designer born in Seoul and based in New York. She has created interactive objects and installations that reflect on human behavior, technology and social change. She earned a Master’s degree from the
Interactive Telecommunications Program at
NYU and is currently an Artist in Residence at
EYEBEAM Art & Technology Center.

She uses her observation on human behavior - dressing and undressing, drinking and eating, calling and texting, and writing emails and snailmails - to design interactive objects for public spaces. Based on her research on people’s urban lifestyles she created
Polite Umbrella (2005) and
Pillowig (2004). Most recently, she mixed and matched technology and design theory to develop two tactile interface projects that enhance people's physical senses as well as their ability to create and share
their stories with wider audiences:
Zipper Orchestra (2006) and
Fold Loud (2007).

JooYoun’s art has been displayed by the
Museum of Modern Art New York,
